Bauhaus Luftfahrt is an interdisciplinary research organisation located in Taufkirchen near Munich, Germany. As an aviation think tank, Bauhaus Luftfahrt tackles questions about tomorrow’s air transport and provides scientifically based answers. One focus of Bauhaus Luftfahrt is to research long-term options for the transformation targeting climate-neutral aviation.
Bauhaus Luftfahrt is the coordinator of SUN-to-LIQUID II. Besides, Bauhaus Luftfahrt leads research on the future performance perspective of SUN-to-LIQUID II, specifically by performing the techno-economic, environmental, and socio-economic analyses of the technology developed in the project.
- Strong expertise in system analysis, including LCA and TEA, system modelling and scale-up studies, as well as business cases.
- Proven experience in project management and communication.
Fundación IMDEA Energía is a research centre that operates as a non-profit foundation developing world-class R&D in the field of clean and renewable energy technologies. The high temperature processes unit (HTPU) is leader in the field of concentrating solar to fuels.
Fundación IMDEA Energía develops and tests novel 3D-printed structured redox materials for the solar reactor and scales up the fabrication to a power level of 50 kW, in collaboration with DLR. Fundación IMDEA Energía is also responsible for the field validation at IME Technology Park in Móstoles, Spain. Hence, its role is to monitor the solar concentrating systems and timely adjust the solar concentrator when necessary, for an enhanced performance and increased focus stability and accuracy. Finally, Fundación IMDEA Energía contributes to the techno-economic, environmental and social analyses led by Bauhaus Luftfahrt.
- Cutting-edge research and expertise in the field of solar thermochemistry, concentrating solar power, solar fuels and chemicals.
- Strong record with solar concentrating systems.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) leads the central task of solar reactor development, which includes the assessment of reactor and heat recuperation concepts, the design and construction of an integrated reactor-heat recuperator system, and its numerical modelling. Furthermore, DLR installs and tests the reactor-recuperator system in the solar facility at IMDEA Energía, integrates an advanced flux measurement system and contributes to the scale-up study.
- Strong expertise in the field of concentrating solar technologies.
- More than 20 years of experience in developing and testing reactors for solar thermochemistry.
- Operator of large-scale research infrastructure.
Started in 2002, HyGear BV is a developer & manufacturer of decentralized unique installations for hydrogen production, purification and recycling plus carbon capture systems. Its unique and compact design for hydrogen solutions, makes its cost effective, most reliable, safe and sustainable.
HyGear has flexible engineering skills, prototyping and testing capabilities. A main focus for HyGear is Engineering for Sustainable Growth.
HyGear leads the development of the gas-to-liquid subsystem for the conversion of gases to liquids. Additionally, it designs a viable commercial scale plant for future applications.
- Expertise in the field of chemical engineering, especially small-scale conversion of gas-to-liquid. HyGear reactor technology enables them to conduct Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and other equally demanding synthesis gas reactions in a highly efficient manner.
- Expertise in prototype system design, manufacture and assembly, as well as scale-up of prototypes.
Synhelion is a spin-off company from ETH Zurich, working on the commercialization of solar thermochemical fuels to decarbonize transportation. Synhelion’s solar fuels replace fossil fuels as they are fully compatible with existing global infrastructure and competitive. Synhelion’s unique technology uses concentrated solar heat to turn CO2 into fuel. As Synhelion close the carbon cycle, they drive a world connected by clean, sustainable transportation.
Synhelion leads the task of exploitation and roadmap of the technology that will pave the way towards commercialization of the technology. Synhelion also contributes to the design and installation of the whole reactor-heat recuperator system. Additionally, Synhelion also performs the exploitation study and contributes to the techno-economic, environmental and social analyses led by Bauhaus Luftfahrt.
