“SPOTLIGHT ON PARTNERS” SERIES

Synhelion

PARTNER Synhelion

We are pleased to introduce our second industrial partner :Synhelion, a cleantech company that has developed a unique technology to produce sustainable fuels from solar energy.

Synhelion is a spin-off company from ETH Zurich that is commercializing solar thermochemical fuels to defossilize transportation.

Synhelion’s solar fuels can directly replace fossil fuels as they are fully compatible with the existing global infrastructure. Its unique technology uses solar heat to turn CO2 and H20 into renewable fuels. As Synhelion’s renewable fuels close the carbon cycle, they drive a world connected by clean, sustainable transportation.

In the SUN-to-LIQUID II project, Synhelion leads the task of exploitation and roadmap of the technology, and paves the way for commercialization of the technology. It also contributes to the design and installation of the entire reactor heat recuperator system. Additionally, Synhelion performs the exploitation study and contributes to the techno-economic, environmental and social analyses led by Bauhaus Luftfahrt.

Synhelion assets:

  • Strong expertise in solar reactor technology, thermal energy storage, integration, and scale-up of solar fuel technologies.

  • Techno-economic and life-cycle analyses for various alternative fuel pathways.

  • Successful demonstration of solar fuel technology on an industrial scale.
