“SPOTLIGHT ON PARTNERS” SERIES
IMDEA ENERGÍA
PARTNER IMDEA ENERGÍA
In our ongoing series introducing the six partners of the SUN-to-LIQUID II consortium, we are proud to feature Fundación IMDEA Energía, a world-renowned Research and Technology Organization (RTO) dedicated to advancing renewable energy solutions.
Fundación IMDEA Energía (IME) is a non-profit foundation at the forefr
ont of research and development in clean and renewable energy technologies. Recognized for its scientific excellence, IME was awarded the “María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence” accreditation in 2020 by the Spanish State Research Agency. Its High Temperature Processes Unit (HTPU) is a global leader in converting concentrated solar power into fuels, driving innovation in sustainable energy.
As a key partner in the consortium, IME is responsible for:
- Developing and testing advanced 3D-printed structured redox materials for the solar reactor.
- Scaling up production to achieve a 50 kW power level, in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
- Conducting integrated on-sun validation at its solar field in Móstoles Technology Park, Spain, ensuring optimal performance, stability, and precision of the solar concentrating system.
- Contributing to techno-economic, environmental, and social analyses, working alongside Bauhaus Luftfahrt.
Fundación IMDEA Energía brings unparalleled expertise to the project, including:
✔ Cutting-edge research in solar thermochemistry, concentrating solar power, solar fuels, and chemicals.
✔ Extensive experience in optics, heat and mass transfer, solarization of components, and testing of solar concentrating systems.
